A degree program in film studies will introduce you to the entertainment industry: from its history and theory to the technology and implementation of films and television programs. This field of study will either focus on the entirety of a production or on specific areas such as technology.

Film studies combines both theoretical foundations and practical skills. On the one hand, you’ll gain knowledge of media and film studies as well as film history and theory. On the other hand, you’ll learn how productions are planned, shot, and edited.

In this field of study, you’ll typically carry out your own projects during your studies and record short films with your fellow students. This will allow you to deepen your knowledge and learn more about the organizational aspects of filmmaking, such as creating a budget, staying on schedule, or marketing.

Many departments and subject areas come together in film studies, which you can specialize in when choosing your degree program: typical programs in this field of study are called film and motion picture design, directing, image technology and camerawork, and sound design and animation.
