As an air traffic manager, you’ll coordinate the flight routes and altitudes of all aircraft to ensure they reach their destination via the most efficient paths. In doing so, you’ll help minimize the environmental impact of air traffic.

Coordinating aircraft on the ground and grant takeoff and landing clearances will be key aspects of your role as an air traffic manager. Once they’re in the air, your task will be to guide them along the correct flight paths and ensure that all intersections are secured when approached.

Your responsibilities will include continuously monitoring air traffic to ensure safe and efficient operations. Alternative career paths include working in the military or at an area control center, which manages broader airspace sectors and is not always located at an airport.
