As a psychiatrist, you’ll treat disorders of the human brain, including mental, neurological, and psychosomatic illnesses such as depression, anxiety disorders, or dementia. To make diagnoses and develop treatment plans, you’ll gather information about your patients by talking to them about their medical history and conducting tests and medical examinations.

Your role as a psychiatrist follows a holistic approach. You’ll typically combine psychotherapeutic sessions with medication. Your responsibilities also include keeping accurate records of therapy sessions and working closely with other psychological and medical professionals.
