As a precision engineer, you’ll design and build high-precision devices, systems, and components such as watches, binoculars, microscopes, and camera lenses. Your tasks include creating technical drawings, selecting suitable materials, and performing calculations, for example, to determine load capacity. You’ll then produce prototypes for testing and experimentation.

A key aspect of your role as a precision engineer involves planning, monitoring, and optimizing production and assembly processes. This includes scheduling machinery and personnel, inspecting the quality of finished parts, and organizing maintenance and servicing tasks. You may also work in technical sales or customer service.
