Studying Media Technology

Media technology is a field of study that focuses on the technical side of media production and processing: from the processing of digital images and sound recordings to the development of web technologies and the printing of magazines or posters.

In this degree program, you’ll learn the technical side of how media content of all kinds is created, edited, transmitted, and stored. You’ll combine creativity and technology and acquire knowledge from the fields of computer science, media studies, electrical engineering, and information technology. However, your curriculum may also include coursework from business administration, law, and ethics.

The course content in this field of study includes media technology systems and processes, audio and video technology, data compression, and network technologies. In most cases, you’ll be able to implement your new skills in practical exercises during your studies.

As there are many different types of media, media technology is also a very broad field. You can specialize in different types of media or fields of application in most degree programs, for example in printing technology, 3D animation, or audio technology.
