Studying Media Design
Media design as a field of study focuses on the design of content for various media: from the development of creative concepts to the implementation and marketing of the same. You’ll work with both traditional and new media forms in this field of study, such as print, audio, or video media as well as digital media.
A media design degree program combines media science content with design studies, communication sciences, computer science and business administration. You’ll learn creative, technical, and theoretical aspects of the media industry, design theory, and project management. You’ll also acquire skills in programming, animation technology, and web design.
Practical projects are usually part of your studies, such as the design of advertising campaigns, websites, or apps. That will give you comprehensive training in the design of various media, but you can often also specialize in certain forms of media.
There are many options for specializations in media design, for example typography, video production, or UI/UX design, and new ones are constantly being added to this field of study. Typical degree programs include media and communication design, media design and business management, or intermedia design.
