A geoinformatics degree program combines the fields of geography and computer science: you’ll learn how to process, analyze, and visualize geographical information. You’ll acquire knowledge of programming and data management as well as surveying techniques and cartography.

Geoinformatics as a field of study teaches practical skills for working with geographic information systems (GIS), remote sensing technologies (e.g., satellite and aerial imagery), and global positioning system (GPS). The focus is on managing large amounts of geographical data.

As geoinformatics is used in many areas, you can specialize in different fields of application: from environmental and disaster management to urban and traffic planning to location analysis. But this field of study also offers many opportunities to focus on the development and improvement of GIS software and applications as well as geodatabases.
