Fashion design is a field of study that focuses on the conception, design, and production of textiles, accessories, and shoes: what do you have to look out for in patterns and the choice of suitable materials? How do you build a brand? And how can sustainability be promoted in the fashion industry?
Fashion design as a field of study combines practical skills with art, culture, and design fundamentals. In addition to techniques such as drawing and cutting techniques, you’ll also acquire knowledge of digital modeling and editing, which will enable you to create designs, prototypes, and ultimately your own collections.
In most cases, fashion design studies also include business administration content, in particular marketing and branding. You’ll learn to analyze the needs of your target groups, identify trends, and develop sales-promoting measures. Armed with this knowledge, you’ll be well prepared for a career in the fashion and textile industry!
In addition to fashion design, this field of study also covers the design and manufacturing of other textiles, for example costumes or home textiles, such as bed linens and curtains. Typical degree programs therefore include fashion and design management, costume design, fashion journalism, and fashion and textile design.
