Studying Social Pedagogy
Social pedagogy is a field of study that focuses on how to support people in difficult life situations and social circumstances. The focus is on educational support and care for children, young people and people with mental illnesses or disabilities.
Social pedagogy combines education, psychology, sociology, and social work: you’ll learn about pedagogical theories and models and will typically be able to test your theoretical knowledge directly in practice. In this field of study, you’ll learn which methods are used for working with and supporting clients in all areas of life.
You can often specialize in target groups or activities atthe beginning or during your social pedagogy studies: are you more interested in working with children or with people with disabilities? Would you rather accompany them in everyday life situations or help them to improve structurally?
If you want to learn more about social structures and inequalities as well as potential solutions for individuals and groups, you've come to the right place. Typical degree programs in this field of study include social pedagogy and public administration, social work and social pedagogy, and childhood and social pedagogy.
